Tillandsia Mitlaensis
The Tillandsia Mitlaensis is a silver-gray Tillandsia. It has a very sturdy structure and the trichomes (leaf scales/hairs) are clearly visible on the leaves. Trichomes are tiny leaf scales that they use to absorb water. Tillandsias absorb moisture through their leaves and not through the stem/roots.
The Tillandsia Mitlaensis originally comes from Mexico, where it mainly grows on rocks. They need roots to cling to the rocks. The roots are only used for grip, not for nutrients.
This air plant has thick, succulent, silvery leaves with a distichous growth habit (curving to one side). Because of the high number of trichomes on the surface of the plant, it enjoys bright light and good airflow. This air plant produces a pastel pink inflorescence with purple petals.
