Care

Tillandsias — also known as air plants — are tropical plants that grow without soil. They get all their nutrients and water from the air and a little rain. With three simple ingredients you'll keep them happy: water, light and fresh air. Scroll through our three pillars and watch the video below, in which Marleen walks you through it step by step.

Water

Although Tillandsias have no roots, they do need water. Mist them 1 to 2 times a week; they absorb the moisture through their leaves and stay beautiful and healthy. Want to take extra good care of them? Use our special plant food spray.

Tip: does your air plant look dried out? Soak it in a bath of rainwater for an hour, then shake it off well and let it dry upside down.

Light

Like other plants, Tillandsias love daylight. Daylight lets them convert water and nutrients into glucose, among other things, which helps the plants grow well. Direct sunlight is too harsh for some plants — so place them mainly in indirect sunlight.

Did you know the lighter the color of your Tillandsia, the better it can handle sunlight?

Air

In the wild, Tillandsias grow on trees or rocks. So you can imagine they love a bit of fresh air. If you place your plants somewhere with fresh air, they'll thank you for it!

Tip: on a nice day, put your plants outside for a while — they'll love it.
