The ionantha is a popular tillandsia, also known as an air plant. The ionantha is often used in shells or sea urchins. This little air plant is perfect for decorations. Tillandsia ionantha is an easy-care air plant.

An air plant can sometimes turn red when it is in bloom or has just bloomed. After flowering, some will develop offsets. Pups are small plants that grow on the side of the air plant. When the pups are half the size of the mother plant, you can carefully twist them off the mother plant. The mother plant may dry out after a while, because she has given all her energy to her ‘child’, or pup.

You'll get a mix of Tillandsia ionantha ionantha (straight/thin leaves that are gray/green in color) and Tillandsia ionantha rubra (rounder leaves, usually slightly greener, or a Tillandsia ionantha scaposa or a Tillandsia ionantha fuego.)
